Mephiskapheles was one of the best ska bands from the mid to late 90's. The singer and primary songwriter, the Grand Invidious, was perhaps old school ska's final, dying gasp. His music is such a complex combination of emotion and ideas; it really manages to capture an authentic flavor of intelligent, refined, subdued evil. His lyrics are usually very good but they can be pretty puerile at times; still, I find that they are often the perfect icing on the cake of a great ska tune and they are always kept within the theme of the band.If you've never heard of these guys, give them a listen. They are one of the most overlooked ska bands in the history of the genre. I highly recommend this album as well as their other good album, God Bless Satan. Give Mightay Whitay a pass, as it's much lesser in quality.
